Carsten Eckel studied Economics in Passau and Ivanovo (Russia), received his doctorate from the University of Passau, was a post-doctoral research fellow at the Norwegian School of Economics and Business Administration in Bergen (Norway), and obtained his venia legendi for Economics from the University of Göttingen. He was a full professor of International Economics at the University of Bamberg before moving to the LMU Munich. Today he is also a fellow of the CESifo network and an external fellow of GEP, Nottingham, and an associate member of cege, Göttingen.

Professor Eckel’s main areas of research are international economics, industrial organization, and open-economy macroeconomics. His work has been published in books and in scholarly journals (including the Review of Economic Studies, American Economic Journal: Economic Policy, European Economic Review and Journal of International Economics).
