Hartmut Egger studied economics at the Universities of Linz and Vienna. He received a Ph.D. (Dr. oec. publ.) from the University of Zurich. In 2008 he joined the economics department of the University of Bayreuth, where he holds the chair for macroeconomics. His research interests are in international economics, labor economics, public economics, and industrial economics.

Hartmut Egger is a fellow of CESifo, GEP Nottingham and the IfW Kiel. He has published in journals such as European Economics Review, International Economic Review, Journal of International Economics, Journal of Urban Economics, Regional Science and Urban Economics. In 2010 he received the Excellence Award in Global Economic Affairs of the Institute for the World Economy in Kiel for his contributions to the field of globalization and labor.
